2024 Volunteers

Welcome to your race weekend toolkit. Here is some important race weekend information that may be helpful as it may be difficult for us to communicate with you during event week.

The Volunteer Online Registration is now closed. If you have any questions, need to make changes, or are unable to volunteer, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Teddy Kertis immediately.  Often times volunteers just don’t show up without letting our staff members know, and it can cause disruption for the entire race.  Therefore, it is very important to let our Volunteer Coordinator know if you are unable to volunteer as soon as possible.

Health and Fitness Expo – What to Expect During Your Shift

The Health and Fitness Expo will be different this year and you may not be assigned to the role that you registered for.  Thank you for your patience.  You will likely be assisting with the distribution of t-shirts and goody bags as registration will be handled by those who have already been trained on the use of the Bib Assignment tablets.  Remember to check in 30 minutes prior to your assigned shift, to receive your complimentary volunteer t-shirt and assignment.  A light meal will be provided before your shift begins.

5K/10K and Full/Half Marathon – What to Expect During Your Shift

You will be assisting with setting up medals, snacks and beverages at the finish line for your assigned race.  Once the race begins, you will then be distributing medals, or snacks and beverages, to participants as they cross the finish line.  Remember to check in 30 minutes prior to your assigned shift to receive your complimentary volunteer t-shirt.  You will then meet with the start/finish line staff who will assign you to your finish line role.

Look for “Finish Line Bib Signs” to see bib colors for each race.  If you are assigned to medal distribution, you will need to know bib colors so you can distribute the appropriate medal to participants.

Tips for Volunteering

  • Please be friendly, helpful and patient with participants.  You are the face of the Cleveland Marathon.
  • Please keep personal items to a minimum.
  • If any conflicts/questions arise during your shift, consult with a Cleveland Marathon Team Member.
  • If you need a break, just alert a Cleveland Marathon Team Member, and let them know you need a break.
  • Remember to dress for the weather; all races go on rain or shine!

HAPPY RACE WEEKEND!  HAVE FUN AND THANK YOU
