Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon sets One-Mile Run course, heats for 2018 Race Weekend 

New course offers scenic view of improved Public Square

CLEVELAND (Jan. 25, 2018) – The Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon has set the course for a new one-mile race to be run in and around Public Square at noon on Saturday, May 19, the day before the marathon, half-marathon and 10k races. 

Starting in Public Square, runners will navigate west on Superior Avenue to East 6th Street., then head north to E. Lakeside Ave before heading west to West 6th Street. From there, runners will head south toward Superior Avenue before finishing at the starting line in Public Square.

Race organizers are planning multiple heats based on a runner’s projected one-mile split time. Heats include:

  • 6:01-8:00 minute mile
  • 8:01-9:00 minute mile
  • 9:01-10:00 minute mile
  • Over 10:00 minute mile
  • Elite Women
  • Elite Men

The one-mile race will coincide with the Cleveland Marathon Expo, 8k, 5k and Kids’ Run races. Top male and female finishers in each heat will win awards.

“The course will offer both competitive and recreational runners an excellent view of Public Square and the continued beautification of downtown Cleveland,” said Ralph Staph, Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon Race Director.

Entry fee is $25, and all participants receive a commemorative t-shirt. Registration for any of the race weekend events is available online at clevelandmarathon.com/registration.

About the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon 

One of the 50 oldest races in the country, the 2018 Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon will take place May 19-20. The following opportunities are available for people to participate in the event: full marathon, half marathon, 10K, 8K, 5K, one mile and Kids’ Run.
