Union Home Mortgage Cleveland Marathon Announces Results of the 2023 Half and Full Marathons
A new course record is set for the women’s half marathon

CLEVELAND, OH – May 21, 2023 – The Union Home Mortgage Cleveland Marathon announced today the results of its half and full marathon runs. The results featured a new women’s University Hospitals Cleveland Half Marathon course record, a repeat victory for the women’s full marathon winner and a breakout performance from a first-time marathoner who won the race outright.

Will Loevner from Pittsburgh, PA won the marathon overall with a time of 2:19:56 in his first ever 26.2 mile road race. Hudson runner Ashton Swinford won her second straight Cleveland Marathon in the women’s category with a time of 2:47:37. Charlie Raymer from Cleveland won the non-binary division with a time of 3:17:24. 2023 was the Union Home Mortgage Cleveland Marathon’s first year with a non-binary category. As a Boston qualifying race, the Cleveland Marathon plays an important role in supporting non-binary individuals in their quest for Boston.

Joanna Thompson from New York, NY won the women’s half marathon and set a new course record of 1:17:34. Alex Culler from Mansfield won the men’s half marathon with a time of 1:12:39. Anna Scott from Bainbridge, WA won the non-binary division with a time of 1:28:47.

“What an incredible weekend of races with runners from across the country and the globe,” said Race Director Ralph Staph. “People got the chance to see what makes Cleveland such a special place, from the crowds cheering them on to the one-of-a-kind sights. Much like the city, the Cleveland Marathon is a race that’s on the rise and we can’t wait until next year.”

Cleveland-native Adam Gorlitsky gave his all in an attempt to break his own world record for the fastest marathon distance in a robotic walking device. Gorlitsky, who founded the nonprofit I GOT LEGS, traversed more than 15 miles in his ReWalk robotic exoskeleton before mechanical issues forced him to finish the race in a wheelchair. Gorlitsky began his effort at noon Saturday and crossed the finish line Sunday just before 6am.

This was the 46th running of the Union Home Mortgage Cleveland Marathon. Nearly 10,000 runners participated in race weekend which featured a Kids Run, 5K, 10K, Half and Full Marathon. For a full listing of results, visit: clevelandmarathon.com/2023-results.
