WKYC Channel 3 set to broadcast 2019 Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon

Registration now open for race weekend events

CLEVELAND (Oct. 16, 2018) – WKYC Channel 3 has partnered with Cleveland Marathon, Inc. to broadcast the race weekend events of the 42nd Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon on Sunday, May 19, which include the 10k, half-marathon and signature marathon race.

“WKYC is thrilled to be part of the Cleveland Marathon excitement once again,” said Micki Byrnes, president and general manager, WKYC Channel 3. “As the event has evolved, so have media platforms, and in 2019 we will be adding streaming and other digital elements to our coverage.”

From the mid-1980s until 2000, WKYC was a proud race partner and provided complete on-air coverage of the event. Channel 3 sports and news personalities will be a part of the race day broadcast team.

“With a legacy of dedication to this event, we welcome WKYC Channel 3 back and look forward to their coverage of what has become one of the premier road races in Northeast Ohio, including the many inspiring stories that drive our runners each year,” said Jack Staph, executive race director, Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon.

More than 50,000 runners, volunteers and spectators are expected to participate in activities throughout race weekend. Registration for any of the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon events is available online at clevelandmarathon.com/registration.  

The Health & Fitness Expo will take place on May 17-18 at the Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland.  

On Sunday, the marathon, half marathon and 10K will start at 7 a.m. on Ontario Street at Quicken Loans Arena. Other race weekend events include 5K, 8K, 1-mile race and Kids’ Run on Saturday, May 18.

About the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon 

One of the 50 oldest races in the country, the 2019 Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon will take place May 18-19. The following opportunities are available for people to participate in the event: full marathon, half marathon, 10K, 8K, 5K, one mile and Kids’ Run. All events except the 8k and 5k feature a walking division. Online registration and additional information is available at clevelandmarathon.com
