2021 union home mortgage Cleveland Marathon important race updates

We greatly appreciate your patience regarding updates for the 2021 Union Home Mortgage Cleveland Marathon race weekend. We are continuing to work with state and local officials and will provide updates as they become available.

As of now, we are planning for an in-person event. That said, due to COVID-19 there will be a number of changes that will be put in place in order to execute race weekend, including a health and safety plan for all participants, which is mandated on a local and state level. Below are some of the most important changes. We will continue to share updates as we gain more information.

2021 RACE UPDATES
  • The location of the race and the routes will be different from past years. We will share the new location and course maps once they are finalized.
  • Start times and course duration limitations may change. We will provide additional information.
  • There will be a limited number of participants based on state and local guidelines.
  • There will be staggered start times for each event.
  • Packet pick-up will not be held at the Convention Center. We will have more information on location of bib and t-shirt pick up.
  • There will be an interactive Virtual Health and Fitness Expo with sponsor and vendor links available for participants and volunteers to access.
  • There will be no post-race activities. Upon finishing, participants must retrieve their recovery items and move through the corral to exit.
  • There will be contact-free water stations (limited on-course). Participants will be advised to bring their own recovery items, however, there will be recovery items in the finish line area.

FAQs

Is the race live or virtual?

As mentioned above, the marathon and related races are scheduled to be in person May 15-16. We continue to monitor the situation closely, and we are committed to hosting the same safe, superior race experience you have come to expect from us. There will be an interactive Virtual Health and Fitness Expo this year with sponsor and vendor links available for participants and volunteers. We will be adding virtual race options for those who are not comfortable attending an in-person event. Please stay tuned for details.

What are the planned safety protocols?

We take the health and safety of our runners and volunteers very seriously and are working with local and state health departments, as well as our medical partner, University Hospitals, to execute a safe event. As such, there will be a limited number of participants based on local and state guidelines. Health and safety protocols in place for race weekend are as follows:

  1. Social distancing will be enforced at the start and finish lines, as well as during the race.
  2. Masks must be worn at the start and finish lines at all times.
  3. Hand sanitizer must be used before entering the race zone and at restrooms.
  4. Runners must practice safety etiquette on course and maintain social distancing.

*We reserve the right to modify these guidelines based on current conditions.

What will the route be?

While we have enjoyed holding the race in Downtown Cleveland for many years, in order to accommodate necessary social distancing this year, we are exploring other locations in the Cleveland area and will provide more details once we have them to share.

What will packet pickup look like?

Since there will not be an in-person Health and Fitness Expo this year, bibs and shirts will be picked up on site. More details on logistics to come.
