Saturday the Day for Kids to Run
CLEVELAND (May 13, 2008) – Kids running around on a Saturday makes sense. Kids running around with hundreds of other kids and getting t-shirts and medals for doing what they do anyway makes even more sense.
All parents are invited to bring their kids to The Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon, Half Marathon & 10K Kids’ Run this Saturday, May 17 at 3:30 p.m. on the field between the Great Lakes Science Center and the Cleveland Brown’s Stadium.
Food and soft drinks will be provided and all young runners participating in the Kids’ Run will receive a t-shirt and a finisher’s medal. Clowns, face painting and other family activities also are scheduled. The cost is $10 per child.
Participating kids will run a designated distance based on their age:
· 3 years old and under: 50 yards
· 4 to 6 years old: 100 yards
· 7 to 8 years old: ¼ mile
· 9 to 10 years old: ½ mile
· 11 to 12 years old: ½ mile
Before or after the Kids’ Run, parents can visit Cleveland’s biggest running gear sale of the year – the Cleveland Marathon Health & Fitness Expo in the Cleveland Convention Center, Hall D. The expo is open Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
For parents, the expo is their last chance to register for Sunday’s race. If they are already registered, the expo is where race bibs, timing devices, goody bags and t-shirts can be picked up.
The Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K offers the following opportunities for people to participate in the event: full marathon, half marathon, 10K, full marathon walking division, half marathon walking division, 10K walking division, full marathon wheelchair division, 10K wheelchair division, Kids’ Run and Corporate teams. Volunteers are needed for a number of pre-race and race day responsibilities.
