4.27.10 - Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon Adds 16 National Sponsors as Participation Jumps 55 Percent
CLEVELAND (April 27, 2010) – The Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon, Half Marathon & 10K, which is currently holding a 55 percent increase in registrants for its 33rd annual running on Sunday, May 16, 2010, has also announced the addition of 16 national sponsors and four local sponsors.
The Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon began in 1978 and is now in its 33rd year. The 2009 marathon generated more than $12 million in economic impact for the City of Cleveland and set a new record for runner participation, with 12,400 registrants. Last year’s race saw a 140 percent increase in runners since 2003 and marked the seventh consecutive year of growth. Currently in 2010, registrations are up 55 percent from this time last year, and race directors are expecting between 14 and 15,000 participants on May 15 and 16.
“The continued growth of this event has captured the attention of not only national companies seeking the attention of the running community, but also local organizations who want to support an event of this magnitude and all the benefits it brings our city,” said Executive Race Director Jack Staph. “We’ve also maintained our sponsor relationship with nearly all of our past event sponsors, which is a strong statement during a tough economic time.”
Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon, Half Marathon & 10K has added the following new sponsors for the 2010 event:

Rite Aid Pharmacy, American Greetings, Hershey’s, Coca-Cola and Vitamin Water are returning sponsors who’ve been a part of the race in years past. There are also a number of returning supporting sponsors such as Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, Cleveland Clinic Sports Health and Asics. The half marathon event has sold out, and a waiting list lottery system is currently in place now through May 5 to fill any half marathon slots not claimed by previous registrants during the Expo. Winners of the lottery will be announced at 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 15. The full marathon is expected to sell out within the next week as well, and race officials will be making an announcement later this week regarding remaining available slots. Slots are still available in the 5K, 10K and Kids Run. Interested runners and walkers may register online at www.clevelandmarathon.com.
