3.5.13 - Cleveland Marathon and I-X Center Ink Deal for Free Participant Parking at Expo
More than 40,000 attendees expected to visit the Health & Fitness Expo race weekend
CLEVELAND (March 5, 2013) - The 36th Annual Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon Health & Fitness Expo presented by Prayers From Maria Children's Glioma Cancer Foundation will be held for the second consecutive year at the International Exposition (I-X) Center, located near Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, on May 17-18, 2013. This year, parking for the event will be free.
"After hearing from participants last year that the parking fee at the I-X Center was upsetting to them, we explained to the I-X Center's management that our bib pick up and Health & Fitness Expo is very different than other events held at their facility," said Ralph Staph, Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon race director. "Through mutual cooperation, we're pleased to announce a deal to both host the 2014 Expo at the I-X Center as well as essentially rent the parking lot for the events, thus providing free parking on behalf of our participants for the next two years."
The Expo will be open Friday, May 17 from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. and from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 18. All participants must attend to pick up their runner's bib and participant shirt at the event, which also features discounted running gear, health and fitness vendors, expert speakers such as marathon legend Bill Rodgers, and course and race information. The Expo is free and open to the public as well.
"With no available downtown locations large enough to host our Expo, the I-X Center is again the best solution for our participants," said Staph. "It's conveniently located near the airport for out-of-town runners, and our shuttle service is very handy for those already in the city or checked into their hotel. The shuttles were well-received last year and we expect them to be used heavily again this year."
Free shuttle bus service will be offered from the marathon's host hotel, the Hyatt Regency Cleveland at The Arcade, which is located at 420 E. Superior Ave.
- Friday, May 17 - 1:45 - 7 p.m. Pick-up/Drop-off: Every half hour in front of Hyatt on Superior Ave. in between E. 4th and E. 6th
- Saturday, May 18 - 9:45 a.m. - 6 p.m. Pick-up/Drop-off: Every 15 minutes in front of Hyatt on Superior Ave. in between E. 4th and E. 6th
