12.20.11 - Executive Director Named to Running USA Board of Directors

CLEVELAND (Dec. 20, 2011) - Jack Staph, executive director of the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon, has been elected to the 2012 Running USA Board of Directors. Running USA's mission, as a national non-­‐ profit organization, is to advance the growth and achievement of the running industry in America, while positively building the sport and promoting quality services that enhance its members' business.

Staph, the long-­‐time owner and executive director of the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon which is celebrating its 35th annual running on May 20, 2012, and a practicing attorney was selected to the board of directors after a national vote by Running USA members.

"It's my distinct honor to be elected to serve the running community in this position," said Staph. "I'm humbled by the selection, but pleased that I'll be able to offer my insights and knowledge to members from across the country. My business and law background should bring an added dynamic to board conversations, and I'm looking forward to bringing new ideas back to Cleveland as well."

Staph has led the Cleveland Marathon to a 265 percent increase in runners over the past eight years, and the race is expecting 20,000 participants in 2012. Registrations to date are up 104 percent from this date last year.

The Running USA board is made up of 17 distinguished leaders of the running industry from across the country. Along with Staph there were seven other seats that were filled for the upcoming two-­‐year term. Of those eight seats, two were reelected and six were elected for the first time. The next election to fill the other nine seats will take place in January 2013.

The newly elected board will meet for the first time in Houston, Texas on Jan. 15 at the Hyatt Regency Houston. They then will attend the 2012 Running USA Industry Conference that will last until Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Staph is the president and owner of the Cleveland Marathon, Inc., and is also the Executive Director of the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon. In addition, he is a practicing attorney and counselor in a private practice located in Pepper Pike, Ohio. There he specializes in corporate, business and antitrust law. He is also a private investor and an executive in several companies throughout the country.

The Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon offers the following opportunities for people to participate in the event: full marathon, half marathon, 10K, full marathon walking division, half marathon walking division, 10K walking division, 5K (run or walk) and Kids' Run.
