1.16.12 - Cleveland Marathon's Free Health & Fitness Expo to be Held at I-X Center
Free shuttle service will be available from Hyatt Regency
CLEVELAND (Jan. 16, 2012) - The 2012 Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon Health & Fitness Expo presented by Prayers From Maria Children's Glioma Cancer Foundation will be held May 18-‐19 at the International Exposition (I-‐X) Center, located near Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.
The Expo will be open Friday, May 18 from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. and from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 19. Free shuttle bus service will be offered from the marathon's host hotel, the Hyatt Regency Cleveland at The Arcade, which is located at 420 E. Superior Ave. Ample parking is also available at the I-‐X Center.
"With no available downtown locations large enough to host our Expo, we feel the I-‐X Center is the best solution for our participants," said Race Director Ralph Staph. "It's conveniently located near the airport for out-‐of-‐town runners, and our shuttle service is very handy for those already in the city or checked into their hotel. The shuttles were very well-‐received last year and we expect them to be used heavily again this year."
Friday, May 18 - 1:45 - 7 p.m. Pick-‐up/Drop-‐off: Every half hour in front of Hyatt on Superior Ave. in between E. 4th and E. 6th
Saturday, May 19 - 9:45 a.m. - 6 p.m. Pick-‐up/Drop-‐off: Every 15 minutes in front of Hyatt on Superior Ave. in between E. 4th and E. 6th
"With over 100 vendors expected to participate, the Expo has something for everyone, including discounted running shoes, apparel and gear, and the opportunity to meet famous running legends and attend workshops," said Staph.
All participants must attend the Health & Fitness Expo in order to pick up their bib, timing device and t-‐shirt. Friends, family and the general public are welcome to attend. The Expo is free of charge to everyone.
The Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon offers the following opportunities for people to participate in the event: full marathon, half marathon, 10K, full marathon walking division, half marathon walking division, 10K walking division, 5K (run or walk) and Kids' Run. The events take place May 19 and 20, 2012. To register for any of the events, or learn more, visit www.clevelandmarathon.com.
Last year, both the full marathon and half marathon sold out and the 10K and 5K came close to reaching their respective caps as well. 18,300 people competed in the 2011 events over the course of the weekend. Race organizers are expecting at least 20,000 participants for the 35th annual event in May.
There are also opportunities for non-‐profit organizations to raise funds through their participation in the race through Cleveland Marathon Charities, for which information can also be found on the marathon's website.
